Workshop against prejudice on two continents
We learn and share the experiences of children from Croatia and Tanzania. As part of the Young Peacemakers project, we presented workshops on combating prejudice and stereotypes and on interculturalism for children who use the children's home in the House of the Blessed Alojzije Stepinac in Brezovica. Initially, we conducted workshops with the wards of the St. Anthony's Orphanage, and then we presented the pictures and conclusions to them with the help of the staff of the home in Brezovica. This is a real cooperation between the two continents because we connected the protégés of our Tanzanian house St. Anthony with the children from Brezovica. Respect for diversity and combating prejudice against others is extremely important in light of current protests against racism. We bring you the impressions of the wards in Brezovica: Our users assumed that families in Africa have 10 children, that their favorite game is man don’t get mad, that their elementary school lasts 7 years. They thought they preferred to eat cakes, and drink water and beer. From household chores, they think children are involved in washing dishes, cleaning the house, doing laundry and disinfecting windows. Our users accepted the workshop well, we talked about how it is not to have tap water, but how it would be if we had to take it from the well every day and the like.
