Young Volunteers Bring Easter Joy to a Senior Home

Young Volunteers Bring Easter Joy to a Senior Home

With Easter just around the corner, as part of the project Raising Young Volunteers, we organized a volunteer activity that created a particularly warm and touching atmosphere. We held a creative workshop making Easter decorations, but the most beautiful part of the day was the connection between generations. This time, children from the Tuskanac Center for Education came to the Home for the Elderly Centar in Klaiceva Street in Zagreb as young volunteers.

During the creative workshop, we decorated Easter eggs together. The children from Tuskanac, our young volunteers, helped the residents place stickers, paint Easter motifs and arrange the decorated eggs on branches. Everyone was deeply engaged in the activity. The room was filled with conversation, laughter, and warmth, much like the feeling when grandparents spend time with their grandchildren. That sense of closeness shaped the entire gathering. By the end, the children were already saying they would love to come back again.

They experienced the joy of sharing their time and effort

Through this workshop, the children gained their first experiences of volunteering. They had the opportunity to see what it truly means to give their time, effort and creativity to those who appreciate it most. Even more importantly, moments like these help children develop empathy and understanding for olders.

The volunteer activity brought together six young volunteers from the Tuskanac Volunteer Club and three volunteers from Kolajna ljubavi, all with a background in education, who supported the children in their very first steps into volunteering.

The conclusion of the workshop was simple but powerful: with a small act of kindness, we can brighten someone’s day and ease the feeling of loneliness. In return, we receive valuable sense of community, care and purpose.
