Bread Day, Africa, Gratitude and Sharing at Kajzerica Primary School

Bread Day, Africa, Gratitude and Sharing at Kajzerica Primary School

In October, we visited Kajzerica Primary School to hold two workshops in celebration of Bread Day. Through stories about Africa and the lives of children in our mission, we wanted to inspire students to feel empathy for their peers who grow up in very different conditions.

We talked about the everyday life of African children: schools without electricity, long walks on muddy paths to get to class and days with only one meal. Instead of bread, which is a real rarity there, children usually eat ugali, a thick cornmeal porridge similar to our polenta.

The students listened attentively and with curiosity, comparing their daily lives with those of children in Africa and discovering how much they have to be grateful for.

The school prepared a beautiful table filled with different kinds of bread, cakes and pastries, made with love and care. After the talk, everyone enjoyed the freshly baked snacks and the sweet scent of mandarins that filled the hall.

Moments like these remind us all that every loaf of bread carries a story of work, gratitude, and love and that every child who learns about sharing with others gives us a new reason to hope.
