Expanding the Mission of Education from Africa to India
Kolajna ljubavi, renowned for its dedication to support education of impoverished children in Africa, is expanding its Project “Godparents” to Asia, specifically to India, in 2025. This initiative, which has successfully connected sponsors from our regions with children in Africa, now opens new opportunities to help children growing up in extremely disadvantaged conditions in India.
The Sponsorship Project provides education for orphans and children from low-income families, from kindergarten to university. The project's goal is to offer children access to education as a foundation for a brighter future. This expansion to India is a natural step for Kolajna ljubavi in strengthening its chain of solidarity and compassion.
Partnership with the Visitation Sisters in India
In India, the project will collaborate with the Visitation Sisters congregation in the state of Kerala. These sisters, who previously served as missionaries in Tanzania during the construction of the St. Anthony Orphanage by Ivana Marasović, have a long history of supporting vulnerable children. This partnership ensures that the aid reaches those it is intended for, directly and effectively. Like in Africa, the goal is not only to provide education but also to establish a foundation for lasting change in the lives of impoverished children.
Why is the Sponsorship Project in India so important?
India, despite its rich history and culture, struggles with high levels of poverty. Millions of children grow up without access to basic necessities like food, clothing, or education. Girls are particularly marginalized, often excluded from education due to poverty and societal norms.
The sponsorship program in India focuses primarily on girls. By supporting their education, we aim to give them a chance for a better future and the opportunity to build a life of dignity and hope.
How does the project work?
The program supports children from preschool to university by covering tuition fees and essential school supplies, amounting to €280 per year per student. The academic year in India begins in June and is divided into two terms: the first runs from June to December, and the second from January to June.
The education system includes:
Primary school (grades 1–4)
Secondary school (grades 5–10)
Higher secondary school (two years after grade 10)
University
